Kevin Ekar receives Board of Trustees leadership awardOctober 25, 2013
Capital Medical Center congratulates Kevin Ekar, immediate past chair of our Board of Trustees, for receiving the 2013 Capella Healthcare Board Leadership Award for demonstrating exceptional leadership. This recognition is given annually to one board member from across Capella’s family of hospitals.
Kevin joined the board at Capital Medical Center in March 1992 and has held the role of chair or vice chair for most of his tenure. Kevin has enjoyed watching the health care industry evolve over the years. He attributes his long commitment to Capital Medical to his fascination with the changes in reimbursements, increased emphasis on quality and greater focus on community wellness and preventive care.
“Last year, I was a patient at Capital Medical for a knee replacement,” recalls Kevin. “I have to admit, my time on the board has given me a new perspective about the expectation of high quality care that all patients should have and receive. I’m glad to have had the opportunity to experience the quality advances at Capital Medical from decision making to implementation.”
“Kevin is widely known for being a thoughtful, steady leader,” says Stephen Daniels-Brown, board chair. “His volunteer service on the board over the past 21 years has been key to the hospital’s consistent focus on high quality patient care and generous support of the communities we serve. I can’t think of a person more deserving of this recognition.”
“We are grateful for Kevin’s unwavering support, strong leadership and passion for improving the health and wellness of our communities,” says Jim Geist, chief executive officer. “Kevin’s term ends in January 2014 and we will have very large shoes to fill.”
When not giving his time to Capital Medical Center, Kevin helps local businesses with their lending needs as senior vice president for business banking at Heritage Bank. He also serves on the board for the Thurston County Economic Development Council. Kevin and his wife, Kathy, have one daughter and one granddaughter who also live in Thurston County.
Congratulations and thank you Kevin!
